Introduction
ALG Software (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what data we collect when you visit algsoftware.com, why we collect it, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
Data Controller
ALG Software, registered in England. Contact: hello@algsoftware.com.
What We Collect
Automatically Collected
- Server logs — IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps. Retained for 90 days for security purposes.
- Interaction events — four counts of things people do with the interactive tools on this site. They are described in full under Cookies & Tracking below. No cookie, no identifier, no personal data.
Voluntarily Provided
- Poll answers — If you tap an answer on one of the one-question reader polls, we count that answer. Which poll and which of its fixed options, and nothing else. Described in full under Reader polls below. No cookie, no identifier, no personal data, and nothing at all is sent if you do not tap.
- Email correspondence — If you email us (for example, via the address on our Contact page), we receive whatever you choose to include in that email — typically your name and email address — through our email provider. There is no contact form or newsletter sign-up on this site that collects data directly.
How We Use Your Data
- To operate the website.
- To respond to enquiries you send us by email.
- To count which of our interactive tools get used, so we know which ones are worth maintaining.
- To count how readers answer the polls, and to show you the running total after you answer.
Legal basis: legitimate interest (responding to enquiries, operating the site, and understanding which parts of it are useful).
Cookies & Tracking
This site sets no cookies and uses no browser local storage. It does not run Google Analytics, GA4, a tag manager, or an advertising pixel. The one third-party script it loads is Cloudflare’s analytics beacon, described above: it is served from Cloudflare, it sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device, and it does not identify you. Nothing on this site follows you to another site, and nothing here can tell one visit apart from another. No cookie consent banner is shown, because nothing is stored on or read from your device — so there is nothing to consent to.
Interaction events
We do count how the interactive tools on this site are used. When you use one, your browser sends a short message to our own server — not to a third party — recording that it happened. There are exactly four, and this is everything each one contains. (Answering a poll is not one of these four: it goes to a different address on this site and is counted differently — see Reader polls below.)
- Cost calculator used — the order volume you entered,
reduced to a broad band (for example
1k-5k). We never record the figure you typed. - Fit finder completed — the same order-volume band, how many capabilities you ticked (the number, not which ones), and how many products matched.
- Feature filter used — how many filters were applied (again, the number, not which ones) and how many products remained.
- Outbound link clicked — which product was clicked and which part of the page it was clicked from.
That is the complete list. These messages carry no cookie, no identifier, no account, no device fingerprint and no free text you have typed, and there is nothing in them that could be used to link two of them together or to connect one to you. Our server writes each one as a single line to its log and does not store it anywhere else. Like any request your browser makes, the message reaches our host carrying your IP address; the code handling it does not read, use, or record it.
Reader polls
Every article carries one question with a fixed list of answers. It is optional, and it is the only thing on this site that keeps a total.
- Nothing is sent unless you tap an answer. Loading a page with a poll on it sends nothing, asks our server nothing, and leaves nothing behind. If you never answer, there is no record that you saw it.
- When you do tap, your browser sends two things to our own
server, and they are the whole message: which poll (its short name, for
example
published-pricing) and which option you chose (its position in the list, as a number). No cookie rides along — the request is made with credentials switched off — and no third party is involved. - What we keep is a running total. One number per option per poll, in our hosting provider’s key-value store: your tap makes one of those numbers one larger. The totals are what you see after you answer, and they are all we have. There is no row for your vote, no timestamp on it and no list of votes to join together.
- No identifier of any kind. No cookie, no account, no device fingerprint, and nothing written to your browser’s storage. Like any request, it reaches our host carrying your IP address; the code handling it does not read, use, or record it. A consequence we accept on purpose: we cannot tell two votes apart, so nothing stops someone voting twice, and a poll’s figures are worth exactly as much as that implies.
- No free text, ever. Every poll is a closed list of options; there is no box to type in, so there is nothing you could type for us to store. Our server does not even hold the wording of the questions or the answers — only their short names and the counts.
- Your browser does not remember that you answered. Reload the page and it will ask again. That is the cost of storing nothing on your device, and we would rather pay it than set something to avoid asking twice.
Page analytics
This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless and identifier-free: it sets no cookie, writes nothing to your browser’s storage, and builds no cross-site profile. It is the only third-party script this site loads.
If any of this changes, this page will be updated first, and a consent mechanism will be added before any non-essential cookie or tracker is ever set.
Affiliate Links & Third Parties
This site links to third-party vendor websites. As of the date at the top of this page, no affiliate programme has been approved for any product featured here — every outbound product link goes directly to the vendor’s own site, and this site earns nothing from a click or a sale made through it. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more detail; if an affiliate relationship is approved for a product in future, this policy and that page will be updated to reflect it. When you click through to a third-party site, that site may set its own cookies — we have no control over those. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.
Data Retention
- Server logs: 90 days.
- Interaction events: not retained by us at all. They are written to our hosting provider’s function log, which that provider rotates on its own schedule, and are never copied into any store of ours.
- Poll totals: kept for as long as the poll is on the site, because a running total is the whole point of it. There is nothing in it to delete on your behalf — it is a count of answers, with no record of who gave them, so your own answer cannot be found in it by us or by anyone else.
- Emails you send us: 12 months, then deleted unless there is an ongoing relationship.
Your Rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Object to or restrict processing.
- Data portability (receive your data in a structured format).
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@algsoftware.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Complaints
If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted with an updated date at the top of this page.
